Launch Control
Once enabled by the driver (by selecting Competition Mode), Launch Control will provide the vehicle with the ability to accelerate from standstill at its maximum potential regardless of the skill or experience of the driver. Available on all E3 manual vehicles, this feature takes the guess work out of transferring 550Nm to the ground.
This unique system uses the ESC unit to control the engine by requesting torque from the ECU. The ESC unit will continue to dictate the engine torque, relative to rear wheel slip, for maximum acceleration. Wheel slip ratio is also unique for the Launch Control feature.
Launch Control will de-activate when lateral acceleration is above 2m/s/s, or when the steering wheel angle is greater than 180 degrees. It will also de-activate if the throttle opening is less than 80%.
So not only is Launch Control intelligent enough to manage engine torque and wheel slip ratio for maximum launches, it is also smart enough to recognise when the driver wants out, or is losing control.
Testing has shown consistent and repeatable launches – within 0.1 of a second – reducing driver error and ensuring maximum launches every time.
