We finally made it! And after seven days and 3147km of driving, the HSV Maloo was crowned the winner of the 2009 Global Green Challenge, having made the biggest reduction in consumption compared to its fuel rating label -- an impressive 48.6 per cent, well clear of its nearest rival which made a 39.81 per cent reduction.

The event was finished off with a police escort down the main street at 2pm followed by a small presentation to all competitors at 4pm Friday.

A gala dinner will be held on Saturday 31 October and that will conclude official proceedings.

The HSV Eco Challenge team is planning a well earned break after the extremely hot conditions and a week of incredible concentration and careful driving.

HSV managing director Phil Harding called to personally congratulate the team and also announced the proud achievment to all staff at HSV HQ.

The result was not a bad way at all to usher in the new E2 HSV Maloo series.

Bring on next year!
